Vodacom Stormers team to play Saracens

PUBLISHED: January 21, 2009

Rassie Erasmus, head coach of the Vodacom Stormers, today announced his team to play Saracens in a warm up match at Newlands on Sunday 25 January. Kick-off is at 16h00. Vodacom WP takes on the SWD Eagles in a curtain raiser game at 14h00.

Tickets are R50 reserved seating, R25 standing and season and scholars tickets are NOT valid for this game. Tickets can be bought from the Newlands Rugby Stadium Box office and through Computicket, Shoprite Checkers and Checkers Hyperstores countrywide.

“Saracens is a class team with some awesome international talent and a fantastic coach,” said Vodacom Stormers Head Coach Rassie Erasmus. “Playing a side well into their season and at the top of their game provides us with incredible match preparation for the rigors of this year’s Vodacom Super 14.”

The Vodacom Stormers will be playing the match in a unique, special edition jersey. In 2007, when the Vodacom Stormers changed their playing strip from black to blue, they also took the opportunity to acknowledge their fans by adopting a new tag line: I AM A STORMER.

This unique jersey symbolizes just how central the Stormers fans are to the team and the brand. Instead of asking a player for an autograph, the Stormers now want their fans to sign their jersey – collecting enough signatures to turn the jersey blue. Fans can sign the jersey virtually by visiting www.iamastormer.com. The more fans sign up online – the darker the jersey will become.

In the two friendly matches, against Saracens at Newlands and Boland at Wellington (31 Jan), the team will wear this very unique jersey. The predominantly white jersey carries the actual names of thousands of fans from around the world who had already signed up to the World Map on the Vodacom Stormers website (www.iamastormer.com ), prior to the 2009 season. The jersey will not be available for sale.
