Boome takes over as captain

PUBLISHED: April 28, 2004

Selborne Boome will lead the Investec Stormers in their last match on the overseas leg of their Super 12 campaign against the Crusaders in Christchurch Saturday (kick-off: 09:35 SA time).

Boome takes the reins in the absence of suspended regular skipper, Corne Krige. Krige received an eight-week sentence on Monday for head-butting a Chiefs player in their match last Friday.

The lock missed four games due to knee surgery and only returned to the fray last week as a substitute for Willem Stoltz. He is, however, a senior player and possesses a wealth of experience. He takes over from Stoltz.

Pieter Rossouw, who was mentioned as a possible captain, is also back in the side at the expense of Gus Theron in another change to the starting XV. Ditto for Breyton Paulse, who sat out the previous two games to accommodate Tonderai Chavhanga.

Chris Rossouw gets a start at flyhalf in place of Gaffie du Toit, while Schalk Burger is back after injury in the place of Krige.

Another stalwart who makes a welcome return is inside centre De Wet Barry. He missed last Friday’s game with a hamstring injury and takes over from Gavin Hume.
