As part of an on-going policy of taking the team to the Faithful, the DHL Stormers trained in Gugulethu on Tuesday. An enthusiastic young crowd from 15 schools in the area watched the practice.
“We have some of the best support in the game” said coach Allister Coetzee. “It is important for us to get out there and meet the Faithful and in addition we bring groups like this to DHL Newlands often giving them their first Super Rugby stadium experience.
This season we have been to Hermanus, Ravensmead and now Gugs and there are more in the pipeline. It’s humbling for the players and great to be able to give something back. Not many know this but this team does a lot of charity and good work. It’s part of who we are.”
Players like Siya Kolisi and Bryan Habana were firm favourites amongst the young fans and were mobbed for autographs after the training session.
In exciting news for the franchise, after the practice coach Allister Coetzee confirmed the signings of young upcoming stars; Siya Kolisi, Stephen Kitshof, Eben Etsebeth and Frans Malherbe. “All have committed themselves to WP for the next 3 years until the end of 2015.
Our structures and systems are working well and producing quality players. Our squad is happy and settled and it is great that players believe in our vision for the future and are willing to commit. “said the coach.
The DHL Stormers have a bye this week and take on the travelling Blues the following week.
