The Vodacom Stormers first-round 27-9 defeat to the Cheetahs was a harsh lesson and they need to improve before taking on the Western Force at Newlands on Friday evening.
Captain Luke Watson admitted the team didn’t live up to the expectations on Saturday in Bloemfontein. The Cheetahs scored three tries to nil and deserved to win.
“Tactically they were just superb and I think we didn’t have an answer for that. It was a very tough night and we battled in the set pieces. Our strength is from broken play where we can do some damage, but we didn’t get first phase momentum going.”
The Stormers made lots of errors and allowed the Cheetahs to capitalize on them. Watson said numerous unforced errors cost them dearly.
“We forced certain passes when we didn’t really have to. It was only the first game of the competition, but we need to improve for next week (Friday night). The Force lost narrowly and will be up and ready for next week.
“We will have to look at our game and see where it all went wrong.”
