Supporters welcome Stormers home

Club Newlands, official supporters club to the Vodacom Stormers, last night hosted a Meet and Greet with their supporters at SA Breweries’ Letterstead Pub in Newlands.

The Vodacom Stormers recently returned from a successful month tour of Australasia and their fans welcomed them home with open arms.

With the SAB beers, fruit coolers and soft drinks on the house, courtesy of SA Breweries, players shared stories from the tour and the tough lessons they had learnt this season. “We’ve got two games left this season (Sharks away and Bulls at home), both will be big games and for us both are really important. It can make a massive difference in where we end up on the log and it’ll be important for us as a team to show that we learnt from our lessons this season,” said Vodacom Stormers No.8 Joe van Niekerk when chatting to the supporters.

Joe went on to thank the supporters for riding the wave with the team, through the tough times this season. “For us as a team it’s so important to know that you are there for us no matter what. We’re a young side now, but we are going places!”

Joe also introduced his team mates (Gerrie Britz, Adri Badenhorst, Naas Olivier, Rayno Benjamin, Jongi Nokwe, Neil Fullard, JD Moller and Joe Pietersen) who joined him at the event. “I know that I’m not supposed to look too far in advance, but we need you guys at the Bulls game next weekend!” van Niekerk enthused, rallying the supporters to get behind the team for their final Super 14 showdown at Newlands.
