DHL Stormers fans, the team is still unbeaten! Four from four and now up against their biggest test so far in the Vodacom Bulls, Round Five could be a truly make or break round for the Newlands outfit with some big SuperBru calls to be made.
That’s because the 2009 champions travel south to Cape Town, buoyant after they routed the Queensland Reds 61-9 last weekend, their pack completely dismantling the visitors as they ran in seven tries. The confidence taken from that success is ominous for Jean de Villiers’ men, but the Stormers’ morale is on a high. If Peter Grant and Joe Pietersen can keep kicking to the same high level we’ve seen from them so far this tournament, with the pack matching the Bulls strength for strength, then four wins should become five. DHL Stormers by 4.
The other match in South Africa sees the Lions take on the Crusaders at Ellis Park, where with so many injuries depriving them of their Currie Cup winning side, the Lions should struggle against the visitors’ pace out wide. Saders by 10.
Over in Australia the Reds will aim to bounce back against the Force, after they were hammered by the Bulls last weekend. Their tour away from home has been tough so far, but they should pick up a win in Perth. Reds by 10. Next in Canberra the Brumbies will look to continue their excellent home form against the Sharks, but might not have enough power upfront. Sharks by 6.
Finally in New Zealand we start with the Highlanders looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season last week, taking on the Rebels at home. Highlanders by 8.
Then we’re in Wellington on Friday night, as the Hurricanes look to overcome the touring Cheetahs. Having beaten the Rebels at the death before seeing victory taken away from them last weekend, the Cheetahs will want to end on a high but might just miss out. Canes by 7.
Last but not least, the Chiefs take on the touring Waratahs, whose form last weekend against the Sharks was outstanding and should carry through to this weekend. Tahs by 5.
Best of luck with all your SuperBru picks for the week, see you next time.
