Schalk Burger ruled out

The Vodacom Stormers suffered yet another injury setback when it was confirmed on Monday that flanker Schalk Burger will be out for two weeks due to the calf injury he sustained against the Chiefs at Newlands on Saturday.

Burger therefore will play no part in the Cape franchise’s last two Vodacom Super 14 matches. The Springbok flank led the team in the last two games due to the absence of injured captain Jean de Villiers.

Stormers media spokesperson Frikkie Erasmus on Monday told rugby writers: “Schalk’s calf was a bit stiff on tour and now he has injured the other calf as well. He will be out for two weeks. This would in any case have been the ideal time to give him a bit of a breather.”

Pieter Louw replaced Burger the past Saturday and would be the favourite to start against the Force at Newlands this coming Saturday.

It seems like Luke Watson, who took over the captaincy from Burger on Saturday, will be leading the team from the start against the Force. Watson is a previous Stormers captain.
