Schalk Burger medical update – 01/05/13

PUBLISHED: May 1, 2013

DHL Stormers flank Schalk Burger will undergo a minor procedure on Wednesday as he continues his recovery from a recent operation to reduce pressure on a nerve that was influencing the performance of his calf muscle.

Burger underwent surgery at the end of March on a nerve in his back and will now have that wound drained in hospital.

“Schalk has had a tough time, but he has been recovering well at home and has been in better spirits of late,” said Burger’s agent.

“He will return to hospital (on Wednesday) to have the wound drained and cleaned up and he will return home when the doctors are happy that he is well enough (to do so).”

Burger contracted bacterial meningitis after his operation in March and continues to recover from that setback. It is not known at this stage when Schalk will be fit to return to training.
