Allister Coetzee today confirmed that Schalk Brits has joined up with the DHL Stormers, on loan from Saracens, as loose forward cover for the injured Duane Vermeulen.
Nick Koster is expected to wear the number 8 jersey whilst Brits will provide cover and impact from the bench.
“DHL WP’s Siya Kolisi, recalled from the U20 Baby Bok squad, who was earmarked to provide loose forward cover, was mugged on the weekend and sustained serious injuries including concussion, head, shoulder and wrist injuries. As a result Schalk Brits who has had a fantastic season for Saracens was called up.” explained the coach. “Brits is the kind of player that can make a great impact from the bench. He is match fit and the move has been cleared by Sanzar. Schalk has been part of this set up before – it’s like riding a bicycle – he has slotted right back in” added the coach.
WP Rugby MD Rob Wagner added, “We have a great working relationship with Saracens, one that we will look to build on. The Brits loan comes at a crucial time for us and we are confident he will make an impact.”
On the match against the Crusaders on Saturday the coach added, “The week off for the players has been excellent with the squad returning mentally and physically refreshed and full of energy and focus. There is a big job ahead of us, but as a unit we know what we want to achieve.”
