Rynhardt Elstadt issued an Off-Field Yellow Card

PUBLISHED: June 3, 2012

Rynhardt Elstadt of the Stormers has been issued with an off-field yellow card for contravening Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship, during a Super Rugby match at the weekend.

The incident occurred in the 59th minute of the match between the Bulls and Stormers played at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on 2nd June. Elstadt was involved in a tackle where he made contact with Bulls player Akona Ndungane’s hair and continued holding his hair as they went to ground.

An Off-Field Yellow Card may be issued by the Sanzar Citing Commissioner for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not meet the Red Card threshold for Citings.

In this case the referee for the match Jonathan Kaplan acted on the incident after a report from his assistant by awarding a penalty. Upon further review of the match footage the Citing Commissioner deemed an Off-Field Yellow Card was appropriate.
