“Cyborg”, one of the posters featured in this year’s Investec Stormers “Don’t Blink” campaign, has won a gold craft award for illustration at the Loeries, South Africa’s premier advertising awards, on Sunday.
The Stormers team, style of play and brand has over the past few years proved successful in growing the customer base by attracting non-traditional rugby markets to the game. The brand strives to present a sexy, not more of the same face to its audiences.
The poster, created by top Stormers and WP advertising agency, Lowe Bull Cape Town and illustrated by artist Pete Harrison was aimed at the youth market and was inspired by the then success of the Matrix movies. Featuring a number of the Investec Stormers high profile stars in various stages of “construction”, it portrays the team as futuristic “cyborgs” of steel and flesh with the tag line “Don’t Blink”.
“The management, players and support staff of the Stormers are very proud of this achievement. Lowe Bull Cape Town has been excellent as an advertising agency and understands our brands, target markets and goals intimately. They have excellent client service, strategic and creative teams and are not afraid to have their creatives interact directly with clients, to help achieve the brand’s goals,” said Gavin Lewis, GM Marketing, WP Rugby (Pty) Ltd.
“All credit to the artist Pete Harrison, who worked to pressing deadlines producing an awesome Stormers product that is a true testament to his understanding of our brand and his individual creativeness.”
